ONE   NOTCH   UP

Holistic learning and pursuit of Dance at Padmalaya means that students are encouraged to learn allied aspects and facets of the art form.

A workshop on Dance Movement therapy by Deepali Salil introduced our students to a very minimally understood aspect of body-mind connect and expression.

A 3 day workshop on Musicality of Dance curated and conducted by Mangala Karthik, took the students through the basics of Carnatic music as applied to dance. Understanding emotion through the lens of music and overlaying rhythmic passages from dance onto musical notes were simple yet extremely effective exercises to introduce many a novice into the world of Carnatic music and music for dance.

Learning is not restricted to classroom sessions. While many students pursue the arts as a co- scholastic activity, the time and dedication required to delve deeper is not small. As an arts education Institution, we aim to make learning of the arts a holistic endeavour. But also keeping in mind the constraints of regular school/work life, students of the Foundation are encouraged to attend the Summer and Winter Intensives. These intensives are open to students outside the Foundation as well.

Summer Intensives are organised as one week to 10-day long modules.

Winter Intensives are 3 day- 1 week modules.

Everyday sessions are guided by our Founder in addition to guest lectures and teaching sessions. The emphasis of these intensives is to dive deeper into learnt concepts and study allied subjects. Assimilating theoretical aspects, execution of these concepts in practice and encouraging creative thought are central to these intensives.

Intensives are customised to different learning levels. The Junior and Intermediate levels areopen for registrations through the year. Online sessions can be enabled for the Advanced level.

Testimonials

To appreciate the entirety of a choreography…explore and interpret a story in different perspectives and come up with our own choreographies. The Intensives are about being completely "aware" of what I am dancing.
