The arts hold within it the potential to influence the next generation and teachers hold this phenomenal responsibility in their hands. To nurture nascent talent and cultivate a student’s interest in the arts is a teacher’s responsibility as well as a reward in itself. For dancers who would like to explore the world of teaching, it is important that they are equipped well with the right teaching tools. Understanding technique, not just from a performer’s perspective but from the perspective of teaching movement, is required. And to go beyond this technique and enable a dancer to truly blossom is also a teacher’s role.

At Padmalaya we make this possible through The Teachers’ Training programme - a hand-held guide. A certified course under the Foundation’s Education initiatives, this programme takes the dancer through a rigorous module of practice, theory and teaching techniques. The training programme integrates a teaching internship at one of the centres of the Foundation. The training programme itself follows an integrated approach of drawing from the past and incorporating the current.

Testimonials

“The Teaching Foundations" program gave an in-depth introductory understanding of the foundations of Bharatanatyam, ranging from the fundamentals of Thalam to understanding the aesthetics of choreography.

This workshop came at a very opportune moment for me, as I had been eager to learn more about the technical aspect of what goes into choreographing a dance piece. I feel this helped initiate a new direction of growth for me as a dancer.
